Executive Vice President & General Counsel
Jim Reiland serves as Executive Vice President and General Counsel of CA Ventures. Jim manages the legal, risk management, and compliance functions of CA and its operating platforms, providing advice and support to CA’s senior executives and working closely with CA’s investment, finance, development, and operations teams.
Prior to joining CA Ventures, Jim practiced law at firms in New York and Chicago, and he was formerly a partner at an international firm with over 1,800 attorneys.
Jim received his Bachelor of Arts from Washington University in St. Louis, and his Juris Doctor from Northwestern University School of Law in Chicago.
President, Global IT and Office Management Services
Arshad serves as President of Global IT and Office Management Services of CA Ventures, with more than 29 years of information technology experience across both the commercial real estate, development and financial industries. His strengths help establish CA’s technical vision and strategic direction for development and future growth. He spearheads our Shared Administrative Services Operation and Business Information Technology department to ensure leading edge technologies are implemented across all aspects of the company.
Prior to CA, Arshad spent 10 years at CBRE as the National VP of Information Technology. Prior to CBRE he successfully held key Business Technology Executive positions at Mesirow Financial, JLL and Compass Management & Leasing under esteemed leaders. He also served as the COO / CTO for ME Development in Dubai for 5 years.
He graduated from the University of Karachi, where he majored in business administration and information technology management. Arshad has also taken several graduate courses in IT and business transformation, organization leadership and change management from MIT.
Director, Investor Relations
Justin joined CA in the Fall of 2017 as Director of Investor Relations within the Investment Management team. In this role he manages CA’s extensive Friends and Family investor base,including capital distributions, tax documents and investor reporting and correspondence.
Prior to joining CA, Justin worked at Kropik, Papuga & Shaw/Monroe Title, a Chicago-based Real Estate Litigation firm representing large commercial banks. As an agent of First American Title, Chicago Title and Stewart Title- Justin has 15+ years of experience in real estate closing and title services. He managed the REO department, working on behalf of nationally recognized banks, asset management companies and loan servicers to deliver marketable title and close on properties throughout the state.
Justin graduated from the University of Miami, earning a BA degree from the School of Arts and Sciences in Political Science and Psychology.
Senior Vice President, Human Resources
As the Senior Vice President of Human Resources, Carmen Smith leads CA Ventures people strategies. Carmen drives the long-term strategic plan and infrastructure across many disciplines of Human Resources such as talent management, employee engagement, coaching, learning and development, leadership development, employee relations, culture and progressive talent acquisition strategies.
Prior to joining CA, she led Human Resources at an international Fortune 500 logistics company, managed Human Resources for a successful startup energy business and was an Adjunct Professor at DePaul University.
Carmen completed her undergraduate degree in Marketing from Michigan State University and her MBA with an emphasis on Human Resources and Strategic Management from Davenport University.
Principal, CA Asset Services
Steve Hussey is a Principal and Executive Managing Director of CA Asset Services, overseeing the firms’ practices in asset and facilities management, property marketing and leasing, property investment services and dispositions, construction advisory and general contracting.
Prior to joining CA, Steve was a founding partner of Hyperion Asset Services, providing asset services on behalf of financial institutions for REO and MIP assets. Prior to founding Hyperion, Steve served as a Principal at Midway III Development, LLC, a full-service residential and commercial construction/development company for over seven years.
In his more than 25 years in commercial real estate, Steve has worked with renowned firms like Tishman Speyer, Grubb & Ellis, Equity Asset Management, U.S. Equities Realty, Tanguay Burke Stratton, and JMB Realty. His specialties include financial team building and management, property and corporate accounting oversight, and asset management of stabilized, value-add and distressed properties of all types and sizes.
Steve graduated Magna Cum Laude from Illinois State University, with degrees in finance, economics and accounting, and completed graduate work in finance at DePaul University.
Principal, Randolph Street Capital
Tom Dreyer is a principal of Randolph Street Capital, LLC (“RSC”), a JV formed by CA Ventures and Mr. Dreyer’s EB-5 consulting firm to provide EB-5 and other foreign capital solutions for various projects developed by CA Ventures. As Principal of RSC, Mr. Dreyer oversees the operations of American Dream, a Johannesburg, SA based company operating globally outside of the U.S. and focused on providing EB-5 capital for CA Ventures development projects. Mr. Dreyer is also a founder and principal of 7000 Miles, LLC, a FINRA registered broker/dealer primarily focused on EB-5.
Prior to CA, Tom served as managing director with FBR Capital Markets, an institutional research, brokerage and investment-banking firm. He was a co-founder of FBR’s real estate investment-banking group in 1994 and was involved in over $2 billion in real estate transactions before his departure in 1999. Tom returned to FBR in late 2006, again as a managing director. From 1999 through 2006, Tom founded and managed Trilogy Capital, a hedge fund focused on real estate related securities. Tom began his career as a financial analyst with LaSalle Partners, now Jones Lang LaSalle (NYSE: JLL) in Chicago in 1988.
Tom graduated from the Edwin L. Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University in 1988.
