President – CA Senior Living
Ben Burke, President of Senior Living, oversees the implementation and execution of the senior living investment process. In this capacity, Ben focuses on project sourcing by identifying underserved markets/submarkets, site acquisition, contract negotiation, proforma and budget creation, operator selection and oversight, and strategic vision of the platform to maximize investor return.
Prior to joining CA, Ben was the Vice President of Development & Investor Relations at Spectrum Retirement Communities. While at Spectrum, he was directly involved in the development of 20 communities (~2,300 units) across nine states. Product types included independent living, assisted living, and memory care. Through these developments, Spectrum’s portfolio grew from ~1,700 units to ~4,000 units.
Prior to joining Spectrum, Ben held positions with Archstone-Smith and CWCapital. Ben graduated from the University of Denver with a BSBA in Real Estate.
Chief Financial Officer
Teri Carone serves as Chief Financial Officer of CA Senior Living and CA International, with oversight for all corporate and property level accounting, financial reporting, investor reporting and budgeting/forecasting.
Prior to joining CA, Teri was Senior Vice President at Equity International where she led the accounting, treasury and financial reporting activities for over $2 billion in assets under management during her 14 years with the company. During her time there, Teri built a fully integrated accounting function, led currency risk management for all investment transactions, managed the investment valuation committee and guided emerging market portfolio companies in developing best practices and institutional quality reporting.
Teri has 19 years of accounting and finance experience working for companies such as the David Lewis Company, Deutsche Bank/RREEF and McDonald’s Corporation. She started her career as a real estate auditor with Ernst and Young. Teri graduated from DePaul University with a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Executive VP - Operations
Carrie Traetow serves as Executive Vice President of Operations for CA Senior Living. Carrie is responsible for overseeing CA Senior Living’s operational platform. In this capacity, Carrie focuses on daily operations management, delivering performance, operator relationships, strategic planning and execution to deliver investor returns.
Previously, Carrie served as Chief Operating Officer of RCS Management, with complete oversight of the senior living portfolio, leading as both owner/operator and third-party manager of assets. With 20 years’ experience in the Senior Living industry, Carrie has a national footprint and diverse background in ground up construction, turnaround operations and acquisitions across the country, all driving superior performance and exceeding investment forecasts.
Prior to RCS Management, Carrie held the position of Vice President of Operations with Enlivant, supporting the operational turnaround of the 200+ community private equity funded organization. Carrie worked cross-functionally with executive and field leaders to drive value through creation of nationally branded sales and operations training programs, leading select pilot programs paving the way for standardization and the development of a Memory Care platform to expand product offering, all while exceeding investor expectations in all aspects of performance.
Carrie is a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Health & Human Services.
Executive VP – Development
Matt Booma serves as Executive Vice President of CA Senior Living and CA Residential, overseeing current and future senior developments. Matt focuses on all aspects of development including site feasibility, financial feasibility, site acquisition, building programming, entitlement, due diligence, contract negotiation, design oversight, technology implementation, construction management, budget oversight and civic coordination.
A keen eye for detail, Matt brings over a decade of experience as an architect to each CA development. Matt completed a variety of projects both domestically and internationally with Perkins + Will, working on higher education, residential, health care, hospitality, retail and office project types.
Matt holds a Masters of Architecture and Bachelors of Science in Architectural Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is a licensed architect and a LEED accredited professional.
Senior VP - Investments
Justin Dickinson, Vice President Investments, is responsible for sourcing, underwriting and processing seniors housing real estate transactions. Justin works closely with capital partners to negotiate legal documents, secure debt/equity commitments, and close transactions.
Prior to joining Janko Group. Justin held positions with Janko Group, MedCraft, and Welltower (NYSE: WELL).
Justin graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science degree.
Senior VP - Asset Management
Joe Duffy serves as Senior Vice President of Asset Management, overseeing the CA Residential and CA Senior Living verticals. Joe is focused on setting and executing on asset strategy, portfolio initiatives, evaluating investment performance, and investor relations.
Prior to CA Ventures, was Vice President at Trilogy Real Estate Group, a national multifamily owner and operator, where he managed a portfolio $500M multifamily portfolio comprised of 5,500 units across seven states. Prior to joining Trilogy Real Estate Group, Joe worked at Walton Street Capital, where he was involved in over $700M of transactions across office, multifamily, and hospitality assets. Joe has a BA in Accounting from Illinois Wesleyan University and an MBA from Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management, and is a Certified Public Accountant.
